DUROLANE® – Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid, also referred to as hyaluronan or hyaluronate, is a molecule found naturally throughout the human body. You might recognize hyaluronic acid as an ingredient in some skin care products. Hyaluronic acid performs many functions in the body, two of which include hydration of the skin and lubrication of joints.1-23 Hyaluronic acid is an important component of synovial fluid, a substance that lubricates healthy joints.

Synovial fluid enables joints to move easily and freely, while also absorbing the shock that occurs in joints during physical activity. In a healthy joint, this fluid protects bones and other joint tissues from injury and disease. This is referred to as the viscoelastic properties of synovial fluid.
