Neuromedex® external drainage systems
Neuromedex® is a Swiss company active in the production of single-use devices for ventricular and lumbar external drainage and for the management of neuropathic pain.
Neuromedex® has developed technologies dedicated to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures implemented in Neurosurgery that aim to offer clinicians and patients high standard of precisions and sterility.
External drainage system VentrEX®
The new system VentrEX® rapresents a new standard of precision and safety in external drainage. All components of the system are completely transparent in order to allow the doctor or nurse to monitor the CSF flow and quickly identify possible occlusions. The fluid repellent chamber filter repels not only water, but also cerebrospinal fluid: even after being in a horizontal position for an extended period of time, for example during transport, clogging does not become an issue. The finely graduated scale on the chamber allows precise measurement of the cerebrospinal fluid’s amount and quality, even when dealing with small drainage volumes.
Catheters for ventricular drainage
Neuromedex offers a wide range of catheters for ventricular drainage that can be used in combination with the EVD systems.
VENTRICLEAR®
Ventriclear® is a semi-transparent catheter for temporary ventricular drainage that allows the clinicians to continually monitor the flow of the CSF. Numbered length markings allow exact positioning in the ventricle.
VENTRIGUARD®
Ventriguard® catheters utilize minimal amounts of ionized silver, completely incorporated in a non-metallic porous molecular structure. The structure itself of the catheter guarantees long-term antimicrobial effects (up to 28 days) against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Numbered length markings allow exact positioning in the ventricle.
The silver ions affect bacteria in four different ways:
- It affects the bacterial cell’s functional and structural proteins. Cell integrity and proliferation are reduced.
- The bacterial cell wall is changed structurally. The cell wall’s strength and functionality decrease and the bacterium loses its protection.
- Attacks the cell membrane, releasing potassium and sodium ions. The resulting electrolytic imbalance causes the dieback of the cell.
- Binding to the functional proteins. The cell metabolism is blocked.
VENTRIGUARD® catheters for lumbar drainage
The catheter was designed for external drainage from the lumbar region using silver ions technologies to minimize the risk of infection. The catheter has long-term antimicrobial properties (up to 28 days). The catheter is supplied with a hydrophilized guide wire which allows a simple removal without causing its dislocation.

VentrEX® Complete external drainage system
The new VentrEX® Complete system represents a new standard of safety and precision in ventricular external drainage. All components of the system are transparent to allow the clinician to monitor the flow of the CSF and to quickly identify possible blockages. A hydrophobic filter and an anti-reflux valve (when provided) are positioned at the top of the chamber in order to avoid problems when the chamber is held in a horizontal position. The finely graduated scale of the chamber allows precise measurement of the cerebrospinal fluid’s amount and quality, even when dealing with small volumes. Large-lumen and color-coded components minimize the possibility of occlusion due to bloody CSF. All access sites are needle-less and easily identifiable thanks to their characteristic yellow colour. The system has an integrated disposable support system that simplifies its use.
VentrEX® Complete is available for both ventricular and lumbar drainage.
